Meet Douglas J. Cummings, Jr.
Focused exclusively on Delaware law, Douglas J. Cummings, Jr. provides clear, practical guidance for business disputes, real estate matters, estate planning, and probate throughout Delaware.
A Delaware Practice Built on Service
DCummings Law LLC was founded in 2021 with the belief that legal services should evolve to meet the changing needs of clients. Rather than attempting to practice every area of law, the firm was intentionally built around a focused group of Delaware legal services, direct attorney communication, and practical guidance that helps clients make informed decisions with greater confidence.
From the beginning, the goal has been simple: provide clarity and economical guidance that helps clients understand their options before committing to a legal path. Whether representing a Delaware business owner, assisting an out-of-state client whose matter involves Delaware law, or helping a family prepare for the future, every client receives thoughtful, personal attention from the attorney handling the matter.

Focused Exclusively on Delaware Law
Rather than covering every possible area of law, DCummings Law concentrates on a defined set of services so each matter receives focused attention and consistent legal guidance. The firm's practice includes Delaware business litigation, Delaware real estate transactions, estate planning, probate, and related Delaware-specific legal matters.
Many of these practice areas overlap. Business owners may need guidance involving governance disputes and business transactions. Families navigating probate may also require estate planning. Property owners may encounter litigation connected to real estate matters. This focused approach allows clients to benefit from practical, cross-disciplinary guidance while remaining grounded in Delaware law.
A Career Built on Service and Delaware Experience
Douglas J. Cummings, Jr. was motivated from a young age by a desire to serve others and contribute to meaningful progress.
Before becoming an attorney, he served abroad as a Coordinator of International Relations, helping strengthen relationships between Japanese and American sister cities. He later worked for an international education technology company, where he developed website content and negotiated contractual relationships.
While attending law school, Mr. Cummings intentionally explored multiple areas of legal practice through positions with the Delaware Attorney General's Office, a private intellectual property law firm, and in-house corporate counsel for a Delaware alcohol distributor. Among his academic accomplishments, he was selected to participate in the White Collar Crime Mock Trial Invitational at Georgetown University School of Law.
After becoming a Delaware attorney, Mr. Cummings twice served as a Volunteer Law Clerk for a former Judge of the Superior Court of Delaware in New Castle County, researching complex commercial issues and preparing draft judicial opinions. Throughout his career, he has represented both plaintiffs and defendants, appeared before Delaware state and federal courts, conducted trials in the Delaware Court of Chancery and other courts, and presented oral argument before the Delaware Supreme Court.
His legal articles have also been authored, co-authored, and edited for publication in multiple legal publications.

Experience That Shapes the Practice
Business Litigation
Mr. Cummings represents businesses, shareholders, fiduciaries, and management involved in Delaware disputes, particularly matters connected to the Delaware Court of Chancery.
Real Estate Transactions
Real estate has been part of Mr. Cummings' life from an early age. His father worked as both a real estate agent and modest developer, introducing him to construction projects and Delaware real estate long before law school. Earlier in his legal career, Mr. Cummings focused exclusively on Delaware real estate closings, often conducting multiple settlements each day while helping buyers and sellers understand the legal documents involved in their transactions.
Estate Planning and Probate
Estate planning became a significant part of Mr. Cummings' practice after volunteering with a Delaware nonprofit organization and seeing firsthand the impact thoughtful planning can have on families. Today, he prepares wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other estate planning documents while also assisting personal representatives through the Delaware probate process and representing clients in guardianship matters when loved ones require additional protection.
Clients Throughout Delaware and Beyond
DCummings Law LLC serves clients throughout Delaware, as well as clients across the United States and abroad whose matters involve Delaware law. The firm regularly represents businesses, shareholders, fiduciaries, property owners, personal representatives, and families navigating matters connected to Delaware's Court of Chancery, Delaware real estate transactions, estate planning, probate, and other Delaware-specific legal issues.
Based in Hockessin, Delaware, the firm provides clear, practical, and economical guidance grounded in Delaware law and Delaware procedure. Clients from Wilmington, Newark, Greenville, Pike Creek, and throughout Delaware rely on direct communication and thoughtful counsel. At the same time, many clients outside Delaware turn to DCummings Law LLC because their disputes, transactions, or planning matters require Delaware-focused legal representation.
Whether working with a local family creating an estate plan or an out-of-state business owner involved in a Delaware governance dispute, the focus remains the same: clear guidance, responsive communication, and practical next steps.
